A recent redesign of the World Bank’s internal sites revealed a lack of cohesion in branding and structural design. The individual departments’ websites had been designed in silos, resulting in little consistency in branding and design. As the product designer, my role was to create an engaging brand and deliver this consistent style and structure across multiple internal divisions, while retaining each department’s own unique identity.
First I made myself familiar with all the department pages in their present state. I made note of stylistic architectural inconsistencies and started sketching out an information architecture that could be applied to all the pages.
Next I created wireframes of the individual pages, arranging the content so that the look and feel would be consistent throughout.
After the wireframes were approved, I created detailed mockups of each section page, giving them all a common basic theme while still making them distinct from one another.
